In 1895, the owners of Tuileries de Marseilles commissioned a young talented potter from Aubagne, Louis Sicard, to create a faience pottery gift. He chose the shape of a cicada because of its prevalence in Provence. At that time, cicadas were also popular with the writers and poets in the area.
Today, the cicada is believed to be a symbol of good luck and happiness. The wall vases are generally hung at an entrance or in the kitchen to bring joy, friendship and luck to the home. Fill with dried herbs, fresh flowers, potpourri, or whatever you like! Add a sprig of lavender to make a perfect gift of welcome or thanks!
