the name Strawberry was derived from the berries that are "strewn" about on the plants, and "strewn berry" eventually became Strawberry.  It is a member of the rose family and is unique in that it is the only fruit with seeds on the outside rather than the inside.  The most famous public eating of strawberries is at Wimbledon each year, when strawberries and cream are consumed between matches by properly attired English.
