Antique brilliant cut garnet and brass festoon necklace with flower and leaf motifs. This piece is a stunning example of the festoon style of necklace in pristine condition with absolutely no cracks in the gemstones, despite its long life. The garnets on this piece range from very small to large, culminating in a flower shaped cluster in the center of the top swag. Garnet detailing extends to the 18" chain. 4" across, 2.5" long. The festoon reproduces the actual garland used on Greek and Roman festal altars and was much used as a decorative feature in Roman and Renaissance art. In Jewelry, festoon necklaces drape in two or more layers of "garland" and pendants.
